About This Spot

Stepping into Restaurante Mar De Fondo in Laxe is like slipping into a quietly vibrant corner of coastal life—a place where the rhythm of the sea meets warmly attentive service. The modest facade opens into a space where the focus feels effortlessly drawn to the fresh treasures arriving from the nearby shores. The atmosphere is unpretentious and inviting, where locals and visitors alike share moments over dishes that speak simply but sincerely of Galicia’s rich marine heritage.

The pace here is easygoing yet attentive, allowing the flavors to unfold gently with each bite. There’s a comforting honesty in the way the kitchen respects the natural character of its ingredients—freshly caught shellfish, tender cuts of fish, and thoughtful accompaniments that highlight rather than overshadow. It’s in small details, from the shimmering zest of a ceviche to the gentle char on grilled octopus, that a story of generosity and care emerges. The bread, often crisp and warm, and the olive oils serve as humble but essential partners on the plate, grounding the experience in local tradition.

Mar De Fondo carries an intimate, neighborly spirit that invites questions about the day’s catch or thoughtful suggestions about pairing flavors. The staff’s genuine warmth turns each visit into a small discovery, especially for those less fluent in the local tongue, making the dining feel personal and relaxed rather than rushed or formal.

For those seeking to be gently guided into the currents of Galician seafood—from smoky grilled navajas and tender zamburiñas to the delicate balance of fresh salads seasoned with the region’s prized ham and piquillo peppers—this is a place to linger. It’s where the sea’s quieter moments are shared across the table, one small but memorable plate at a time.

Wonderful fresh dishes served by friendly waiters in this seaside find. So good we went back. You must try their pulpo a plancha.

Very good, no frills seafood and fish restaurant that takes real pride in the quality of its food and service and take the time to explain what’s on the menu of the day, even to tourists, like us, whose Spanish let alone Galician is very poor. Must try the cheeseflan.

Pulpo just amazing! Not sure if ever again will have a chance to eat such an amazing octopus. Soft, crunchy at the ends with tasty olive. Zamburiñas same good! Quality, taste, very good service, definitely to recommend!

The best Navajas and Zamburiñas I ever had!!!! The Flan de Requesón, orgasmic. Also the details: gorgeous "Pan Gallego" bread and good quality oil used for their dishes.

Amazing restaurant in Laxe, great atmosphere and service. We initially ordered too much food for 4 people as we didn’t know how big the portions were gonna be, but the waiter was lovely in helping us and suggesting us to remove at least one item from our order. Very good gyozas, entrecote steak, and octopus! Amazing desserts too.
